Mom update

I talked to Mom today and she seems to sound better. I got a more clear picture of her surgery. She not only had a cancerous growth removed from the left side of her colon (about the size of a baseball), but also a cyst on her ovary, and some lymph nodes. They did find some spots on her liver and will be starting aggressive chemotherapy as soon as she is recovered enough from the surgery itself. Her surgery was laparoscopic, like Perry’s hernia surgery last summer, so she only has five small incisions. She seems in good spirits and though all of this is upsetting to all of us, was more upset about me being upset than anything else. She hopes to go home Thursday or Friday, which is slightly longer than they were saying earlier. She was impressed with her doctors (one she seems to find particularly cute). I hope to get up there with Perry this coming weekend but will stay with Grandma Mary so that it isn’t too much stress on Mom and Bob. But of course, all this is up in the air this week and for the next coming weeks depending on her recovery and cancer-fighting plan. (Pictured above is Mom in healthier days with Vincent, Perry (both with different hair situations than now), and me in Minnesota in summer 2003.) (In another Mom update, Perry's mother seems prepared to schedule her surgery for Wednesday, June 4, two days after Vincent is slated to go to Denmark.)
