Michael Jackson night

Michael Jackson night – featuring a mix of Jackson 5 songs and songs from the “Off the Wall,” “Thriller,” and “Bad” solo albums – didn’t go great. As it turns out, one of our favorites, Jorge Nunez, got eliminated. Standing out were Adam Lambert, who sang “Black or White,” and Allison Iraheta (with “Give in to Me”?), an L.A. Latina 16-year-old who we had not even noticed before. (Both Adam and Allison are pictured above.) Many of the other performances were mediocre, and the four judges savaged some of them. (The most bizarre/quirky performance was Megan Coarkey’s “Rockin’ Robin.”) On Wednesday the show unveiled an innovation in that the judges can at some point same someone after he, she, or they try to sing their way back into the competition – and so Jasmine and Jorge apparently sang again and failed to impress the judges, who let them go anyway. Up next week: Grand Ole Opry theme. And the week after that: the “Idol” week I’ll catch only if it’s broadcast in Guatemala City.
