Eight Information Technology staffpeople were laid off Monday and today we learned that more layoffs are slated for Friday, March 27 - the first day of my church trip to Guatemala. Quietly, our manager has said he has not heard anything about layoffs in Research Services. We'll see what happens - but no doubt more than just my IT colleagues will lose their jobs over the next few weeks. As I understand it, after the furlough and 2010 salary hike cancellation, there is still $8.5 million to make up.
