Stephanie's sometimes skeptical of the political and horticultural activities of one of our fellow church members, Stephen, who leads a four-week gardening camp for kids on our church grounds (among many other things). But Sunday morning while we waited for everyone to appear for the departure to Montreat by Vincent and comrades, Stephen gave Stephanie and me a little tour of the garden. I tried jalapeno peppers (only the seeds were hot) and an incredible plum, and Stephanie reminisced about her Grandma Gregory's garden behind their inner-city house on Southwood Avenue in the Columbus South End. Many of the fruits and vegetables that Grandma grew - but not grapes - were also being grown in a church's community garden. Both of us learned a little bit more about Stephen's work - and were impressed - and experienced some delightful taste treats also. Blessing to Stephen and all of this who work in the garden and the (June) garden camp for kids.
