Atonement

The British period drama "Atonement," which I saw last night, reminded me a bit of "The English Patient." It features scenes from Dunkirk and the London blitz that must be embedded in the British psyche along with materials about pre-war class divisions. Although, like "Patient" and its melodramatic love story and like some British period dramas, the movie drags at times, the love story is relatively good and a third character - played alternatively by 13-year-old, Oscar-nominated Saoirse Ronan and by Vanessa Redgrave - also spices things up. And a bit of post-modernism thrown in too!
