End of summer school

Friday was the end of summer school for me. My students, the younger ones, had been working with teachers from Indiana University Southeast on reciting a story they had read. They also had together (with a lot of help) written a poem that they recited.

The older students (which are usually mine during the school year) did a reader's theater of The Sneeches by Dr. Seuss. The had some choreography to their reader's theater.

Both groups did extension art projects (which we really aren't supposed to do during summer school since it is supposed to be for remediation but I wasn't going to argue with IUS since I had already mentioned this and so had my principal). They also did art projects of mixing colors much like they do during the rest of the school year.

Parents were invited to attend the recitations. Pizza was served afterwards. We had a pretty good turn out for parents with only a few slight glitches (the IUS professor forgot about having a translator and didn't leave enough time for Roger to translate perfectly, but I'm finding that many people have this problem with public speaking and translators).
