Mom and I have actually watched three plus sporting events this weekend in her hospital room. Saturday afternoon we watched the Belmont Stakes as Big Brown faltered and Da'Tara went from start to finish at the head of the pack. Sunday afternoon we watched as Florida State - in blazing hot weather across town on campus - with great pitching and hitting - defeated Wichita State 11-4 to qualify for the College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska, for the first time since 2000. Tonight we watched the Boston Celtics go up on the LA Lakers - in Game 2 of the NBA Finals - by 24 points, before the Lakers came roaring back in the last 6 minutes - only to still lose by 6 points. Paul Pierce and Leon Powe especially had great games for the Celtics (although Kobe Bryant almost helped win the game for the Lakers too). Mom didn't follow all of this and slept through some of it. But, when she's awake, she's sometimes bored - though she has sometimes watched events like these at home when I'm not in town.
My friend Brant also stopped by and we visited at the hospital dining room, then he stopped by to say hi to Mom and then I walked out to see his new truck. He may give me a ride to the airport Wednesday.
If everything goes to plan, it's on to rehab Monday (after my doctor's appointment) (on Mom's birthday).
