After a somewhat contentious weekend and Vincent staying in town late today after school, to prepare for a science field trip to a Kentucky Kingdom amusement park park roller coaster and to buy more prom clothes from a downtown clothing store, Vincent and I joined the other $200 million worth of people who had seen "Iron Man," one of three or four Hollywood super hero movies coming out over the next month or so. I already knew that our entertainment bible, "Entertainment Weekly," liked former bad boy Robert Downey, Jr., in the role of a 30-something single entrepreneur who develops the "Iron Man" persona. A big surprise was Jeff Bridges as Downey's character's business partner (above left). Gwyneth Paltrow and Terrence Howard also star. The movie paints a somewhat one-dimensional portrait of the conflict in Afghanistan and there is cartoonish (and not so cartoonish) superhero violence. But a good time on the whole, with even the military-industrial-complex as a villain.
