Country night

Dolly Parton was the guest "mentor" on "American Idol" tonight, with the nine remaining contestants singing (mainly country) songs from her catalog. It was a so-so night, with not many amazing and not many terrible performances. Several performers we don't always like - even Jason Castro, on "Travelin' Thru," were OK, as was Syesha's "I Will Always Love You" (which turns out in the rendition I know to be Whitney Houston cover of a Dolly Parton song). Best songs of the night, from my point of view, were Brooke White's country-folk "Jolene" (with Brooke on acoustic guitar and a band member playing a wash board) and Michael Johns' (impressing us again) searing blues-rock "It's All Wrong But It's All Right," whose raw power for once surpassed that of rival David Cook. Sing it, Brooke! Sing it, Michael!
