More work slowdown

It’s Day 4 of the work slowdown for teachers in Stephanie’s school district. Alas, she essentially stepped over the picket line to stay late so that we can take Vincent for a campus visit at Murray State University Sunday PM and Monday, the first day of his spring break, when we’ll both miss work. At yesterday’s faculty meeting, the principal (pictured above) talked about the possibility of canceling the school’s spring festival, which goes after school and is a big fund-raiser for the school, drawing students, their families, and interested community supporters from around the neighborhood. Because teachers are not to stay after school for any unpaid work activities, the principal and teachers agreed to move the festival to during the school day, although fewer family members and other community supporters will be able to be there. Even more than staying late to do work (which they’re still frowning on), the union – with the teachers working without a collectively bargained contract for the whole school year – is targeting official volunteer activities, like coaching a team without getting paid or like this spring festival.

Yep, our fall festival is during the school day too. Don't worry, parents will take the day off and come to the festival!
