Literary magazine

Vincent had four poems in the Brown School literary magazine that came out this month: "Aging Too Slow," "High School," "Subversive," and "The Shinobi Resignation" (double click the pictures to be able to read the poems). Two things surprised me: Vincent had appeared to be writing these at the last moment, minutes before copy for the literary magazine was due. But now I realize that can't entirely be true, as the poems are too polished and too good to have been written entirely over night. Also, asked by the Murray State creative writing professor whether he was interested in writing fiction or poetry, Vincent said fiction, dismissing poetry. But clearly he has some interest in poetry, at least at school. The last poem connects with/follows up on a short story/novelette Vincent began working on several months ago.

Today Mark was a guest artist/speaker/poet with Riley ES students. They went on a field trip to Leon Sinks. Mark led a group of students on a hike to gather descriptive words based on their senses. Once back in the classroom, the kids will compose their own poetry. Mark will be back next week to present and participate in the students' poetry reading.
